About 80 Nigerian soldiers stationed at a camp at Ajire Village in Mafa LGA of Borno abandoned the camp Wednesday night after they were outgunned by terrorists of the Islamic State West African Province (ISWAP).

The insurgents attacked the troops at about 9 pm, forcing the soldiers to flee without serious exchange of fire.

Reports said the retreating soldiers abandoned their weapons and personal belongings including handsets, which were carted away by the insurgents.

“The terrorists overpowered the Nigerian troops who were left with few ammunitions and without support equipment such as RPG, AA and MG,” a source told Daily Trust.

Residents said the insurgents who occupied Ajire village between 9pm on Wednesday and 4am on Thursday did not attack civilians.
