Controversies are now trailing the proposed burial ceremony of the late former Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), Prof Osayuki Godwin Oshodin, following a challenge of the burial arrangement by one Osayuki Oshodin Jnr.

The said Osayuki Oshodin Jnr, in a Public Notice released on his behalf by the law firm of Afolabi Olayiwola and Co., claimed to be the first son of the late Professor of Health Education, by Barbara Ford.

He added that he has never authorized anyone to carry the burial rites of his father.

“The general public is hereby informed that first son of emeritus Professor Osayuki Godwin Oshodin (the former Vice Chancellor of University of Benin), is Osayuki Oshodin junior, whose mother is Barbara Ford, has never and not intend to authorize anyone to carry out the burial rites of his late bossom father on his behalf.

“The general public is hereby advised to ignore any obituary notice or programme being circulated by anyone, as no one has his authority, consent or permission to act in this regard,” the public notice stated.

Members of the family of the former Vice-Chancellor who died at the age of 71 years in the early hours of Sunday May 29, 2022 in Benin City, Edo State after a brief illness have not reacted to the claim.

The erudite scholar was until his demise a professor of Health Education.

He was born on August 9, 1950, and was Vice Chancellor of UNIBEN from 2009 to 2014.
