Bishop docked for rape, forcing 16-year-old girl to take oath

A Magistrate Court in Port Harcourt on Monday granted bail to Bishop Felix Duruebube of the Mercy House Church International, Eliozu near Port Harcourt who was accused of defiling a 16-year-old girl.

Duruebube who is facing two charges of defilement and forcing the girl to take an oath with him was arraigned before Chief Magistrate Obiareri Anugbum.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges.

However, he was unable to meet the bail conditions, which includes provision of N2 million surety immediately and thus, he was remanded in the Port Harcourt Correctional Centre.

Chairperson of International Federation of Female Lawyers,FIDA in Rivers State, Adata Bio-Briggs, while speaking to our correspondent complained of pressure from religious leaders to drop the case against the Bishop.

She urged religious leaders to desist from always trying to bury criminal matters involving pastors.

The FIDA Chairperson who added that she was disgusted at the number of church members that attended the court proceedings called on Christians to test the spirit behind their pastors.
