Cult killings: Teenager, 3 others arrested in Edo

Four suspects, including a teenager, have been arrested by operatives of Edo State police command joint team, in connection with the recent cult killings in the state.

Recall that no fewer than eight suspected members of two rival cult groups were killed between Wednesday and Thursday, at various points in Benin City, the state capital.

A statement on Friday, by the Command’s deputy public relations officer, ASP Jennifer Iwegbu, gave the names of the arrested suspects as Esosa Eregborowo (M, 35) Frank Obazee (M, 34),who were arrested at Iguosodin Community Upper Siluko Road Benin city.

Other suspects are Minister Godwin (M, 18) and Jeremiah Timothy (M, 22), who were arrested at Eweka, by Siluko Road, Benin City.

Iwegbu noted that all the suspects have confessed to be members of dreaded Aiye and Eiye confraternities and “are co-operating with the Police with useful information.They will soon be arraigned in court.”

Meanwhile, the State Commissioner of Police, Abutu Yaro, has ordered a massive deployment of operatives to ensure that peace is restored and perpetrators of the dastardly act are arrested and brought to face prosecution.

Yaro who warned residents of the State,especially Benin city to stop incessant cult killings as recorded in the last 24 hours, restated the Command’s unrelenting efforts in ensuring that there is no hiding place for criminals, even as he further warned all criminal elements to desist from crime or face the full wrath of the law.
