The Police in Osun, on Friday, arraigned a 22-year-old vulcanizer, Hezekiah Amonloja, before an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing plantain, worth N500,000.

The Prosecutor, Insp Sunday Osanyintuyi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on June 22, around.12:30 p.m. at Apeje town in Ifetedo, Ife South Local Government Area of Osun.

Osanyintuyi said that the defendant stole plantain, valued at N500,000, property of one Oba Ademola Ademiluyi.

He added that the offence contravened Sections 380 and 390 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to a count charge of stealing.

The Defence Counsel, Mr Ben Adirieje, applied for bail for the defendant in the most liberal term, promising that his client would not jump bail, but would provide reliable sureties.

Magistrate O.T. Badmus granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000, with one surety in like sum.

Badmus said that the surety must swear to an affidavit of means, reside within the court jurisdiction and present a viable address which must be verified by the prosecutor.

He said further that the surety must be a tax payer, with evidence of three years tax payment and produce three recent passport photographs.

The case was adjourned till Aug. 23 for hearing at Ifetedo Magistrates’ Court.
