In this interview, Powers speaks about thriving business and appealing music, as well as the inspiration behind his latest project “Kanaku”.

Hi Shugar Powers, Tell us about yourself?

Thank you for having me. My name is Emmanuel Shugar Powers, originally from Delta State, born and raised in Osun State, Ile-Ife Nigeria.

You just released the video to your club-ready tune – “Kanaku”. What inspired the song?

Thank you, the idea behind “KANAKU” was to get a club-ready banging song and it was inspired by the talented producer who started with the instrumental. Song was produced by “DYNASTY THE GREAT”.

What can you say is the most rewarding part of the pursuit of your career?

The most rewarding part for me would be finding and understanding myself. Career or not, if you find yourself and know yourself then you can decide if you want a better version of yourself. Pursuing my career has always meant conquering and facing my FEARS and that’s rewarding to me.

What are the most daring challenges you have faced in the pursuit of this career?

Challenges are everywhere, at every level of every career. I don’t see them as challenges anymore because the truth is I have to go through every challenge to get to the other side.

How has your sound evolved over the years?

My sound has evolved from when I got started till now. And finding and understanding myself, knowing where I am at in life and what I want to achieve has changed my sound because I know my truth and I am living in my truth now.

Who were your musical inspirations as you embarked on this journey?

I have a lot of people I look up to. I listen to all genres of music.

What next should we expect from you?

Expect a whole lot more positive energy from me. We are here to stay and to add more positivity to the chaotic world of negativity. I stand for LOVE and POSITIVITY all time.

What advice do you have for the up-and-coming looking up to you?

First of all, I do not believe in the word up and coming because there is nothing like you coming. You are either doing it or not. So my advice would be, DON’T LET ANYBODY TELL YOU THAT YOU CAN NOT DO IT and there is no template to your road map. Find yourself, believe in yourself, achieve your goals, and duplicate them.
