The Director-General, Lagos State Public Procurement Agency (PPA) Fatai Idowu Onafowote has charged officers of the agency to acquire skills and knowledge to be able to discharge their professional duties effectively.

Onafowote spoke while addressing procurement officers of Ministries, Departments and Agencies of the State at a three-day capacity building workshop organised by the Agency for senior procurement officers, held at the Green Legacy Resort, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

He pointed out that to enable the agency meet the high expectations of stakeholders and discharge its regulatory functions effectively and efficiently in accordance with the international best practice, the government had continued to provide the necessary enabling environment for the Agency.

The DG commended Sanwo-Olu for his commitment towards capacity building and development of staff despite the prevailing economic challenges in the country.

Onafowote also stated that the Agency, in collaboration with Messrs Danik Ventures, decided to organise the capacity building programme in a serene environment outside Lagos State for the first time since the creation of the agency to enable participants learn new things and gain new insights of another part of the country.

He added that the serene atmosphere of the venue would provide not only a good learning environment for the participants, but would also provide them with fond memories which they would treasure for a long time to come.

Onafowote said the agency had assembled a team of seasoned resource persons who were ready and itching to share their wealth of experience in public procurement with participants during the three-day training programme.

He, therefore, enjoined the participants to take advantage of the opportunity offered by the programme and equip themselves with the skills and knowledge.

The Director-General also stressed the need for the continuous training and retraining of procurement officers in the State to enable them keep pace with new developments in public procurement practice.

Also speaking at the event, the Director -General, Ogun State Bureau of Public Procurement, Dr. Adeshina Olanloye, enjoined the participants to always embrace regular capacity development programmes and step up their skills in order to enable them succeed in their chosen career.

He noted that as drivers saddled with the responsibility of implementing the various policies and directives of the state government, procurement officers must be conversant with all the relevant rules and procedures guiding public procurement practice.

Participants were taught digital skills with regard to procurement process and value creation concept in public procurement as well as the attributes of good procurement officers.
