Two female passengers died on Wednesday, after a boat mishap in Ikorodu, Lagos State, according to the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA).

Mr Oluwadamilola Emmanuel, the General Manager of LASWA, disclosed this in a statement.

He explained that the boat submerged immediately after it departed the Ipakodo ferry terminal in Ikorodu, Lagos.

Emmanuel said that the 20-passenger ferry, named “R & N 2”, carrying 17 passengers, capsized at about 7.45a.m, not more than 200 metres from the Ipakodo terminal, Ikorodu.

According to him, the two female passengers were unconscious and rushed to the nearest hospital for treatment, but were later confirmed dead.

Meanwhile, Lagos water guards and the LASWA search/rescue team, who were mobilised to the scene of the incident, rescued 15 persons alive.
