Nigerian politician, Doyin Okupe has stepped down as the Labour Party’s vice presidential candidate to Dr. Peter Obi.
Okupe was made Labour Party’s running mate to Obi as a ‘placeholder’ to beat the deadline set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
He had promised to step down once Labour Party got the right vice presidential candidate choice for Obi.
But Okupe, on his twitter handle on Thursday said he had stepped down as vice presidential candidate to Obi.
He said he had written to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on his decision.
He added that the Labour Party would announce a replacement anytime from now.
“This afternoon, I submitted my withdrawal letter from the position of the Vice Presidential candidate of the Labour Party to INEC.
“A replacement will be announced by the national chairman of d party shortly. I feel greatly blessed to have been part of the foundation of success for the LP,” he tweeted.
