World No. 1 Novak Djokovic beats Australia’s Nick Kyrgios in a dominant performance to claim his 7th Wimbledon title on Sunday.
Djokovic came from behind to win 4-6 6-3 6-4 7-6 (7-3) on Centre Court.
He has now won 21 grand slam, equaling Roger Federer’s record but just one below Rafael Nadal, who had won 22 grand slam titles so far.
The top-seeded Djokovic ran his unbeaten run at the grass-court Grand Slam tournament to 28 matches.
Only Federer, with eight, has won more titles at Wimbledon than Djokovic.
The Serbian player made a slower start than his 27-year-old opponent, who initially seemed unnerved by playing in his first Grand Slam singles final.
After losing the first set, Djokovic came back stronger to win the remaining three sets. He kept his cool and finished the job.
The 40th-ranked Kyrgios was trying to become the first unseeded men’s champion at Wimbledon since Goran Ivanisevic in 2001, but he met a superior match in Djokovic.
Djokovic roared towards his box in delight at clinching victory, then put his arm around Kyrgios, who smiled as he received some words – seemingly of encouragement – from his opponent.
In his short speech, Djokovic told Kyrgios he would “be back” in a major final.
“It is tough to find consolation words at a moment like this but you showed why you are one of the best players in the world,” he said.
“I wish you all the best. I respect you a lot and you are a phenomenal talent. I never thought I would say so many nice things about you! Ok, it’s official: it is a bromance,” he added.
