Rasheedat Ajibade scored the only goal of the match as the Super Falcons beat Cameroon 1-0 on Thursday to qualify for WAFCON semi-final and the Women’s World Cup.

The match lived up to expectation from the blast of the whistle as the Lioness of Cameroon tried to outwit the Falcons.

The Nigerian side dominated play but a resilient Cameroonian side held on in defence.

After a goalless first half, the Nigerian side proved to be the better side of the encounter as Ajibade netted for Nigeria on 56 minutes.

She was assisted by Ifeoma Onumonu who got the ball to her to head home for Nigeria.

As she headed home for her country, Ajibade hefted her jersey to reveal a white t-shirt, with the inscription: “Thank you Jesus.”

Earlier on 40th minute, an ambitious effort from Halimat Ayinde almost followed by Christy Ucheibe’s strike. Both went inches wide.

On 83 minutes, Onumonu came close to adding the second but misses a sitter.

Wit the victory, the Falcons have now qualified for their 12th consecutive semi-final and also guaranteed her ninth Women’s World Cup ticket in a row.

They will now play the host nation, Morocco in the Semi-final for a place in the final.
