Defeated Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola is set to contest the victory of Ademola Adeleke in last Saturday’s governorship election with about 50 lawyers.

Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was declared winner of the governorship election, polling 403,371 votes to defeat the incumbent governor, Oyetola, who scored 375,027 votes.

But a member of the governor’s legal team, Kunle Adegoke, SAN, said on Tuesday that the APC would contest the outcome of the poll, saying that they are still studying the electoral documents.

Adegoke told The Punch in an interview, that they were still reviewing documents and that the legal team was actually working.

He said that in an election of this nature, the documents would be so many, saying that it was important to look at them critically before making a decision, which he said the team was currently working on right now.

He added that Dr Biodun Layonu (SAN), is the leader of the team and that the legal team was not complete yet because there were so many others that would still come in.

Adegoke stated that in the meantime, “the two members of the legal team we can reveal are Dr Biodum Layonu and Kunle Adegoke. Others that may come in are people we may not know but as soon as we are ready to move, we will notify the press.

“The membership can’t be determined as many lawyers are interested in joining the team. You know election petition is a special case. So, we allow as many lawyers that are interested to come in. We may run into 50 or more members.”
