Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan has set a new African Record after winning one of the heats in the ongoing World Athletics Championships in Oregon, United States.
Amusan won heat three in the Women’s 100m Hurdles, ending the race on a time of 12.40 seconds.
The Nigerian sprint sensation who owns the African record of 12:41 seconds saw herself shattering her own record on Saturday.
She ran the fastest time in the all the heats for the day, bettering the time run by other heat winners, such as Alia Armstrong of the US (12.48), Jasmine Camacho Quinn (12.52), Brittany Anderson (12.59), Kendra Harrison (12.60), Cindy Sember (12.67) and Devyn Charlton (12.69).
Amusan has now qualified for the Semi-finals of the 100m Hurdles event.
She thanked God for helping her to achieve the new feat.
“God is working His purpose out. Glad to have broken the African Record THREE times. I don’t know why it’s coming by 0.01s each time.
“I am trusting God through the rounds! Semifinal -Monday, August 25th,” she said on her Facebook page on Saturday.
