Unease in Sapele over rampaging kidnappers

Kidnappers are on the prowl in Sapel, in Sapele local government area of Delta State, as three persons were kidnapped within the town last week.

However, the victims in the three incidents miraculously escaped from the den of their abductors.

According reports from Delta State Government News Bulletin, one Joel was kidnapped at Eko Amukpe area of Sapele as he was returning from a filling station where he went to buy fuel for his generator.

It was gathered that he was alighting from his car when the kidnappers cornered and dragged him into a nearby bush.

They later call members of his family to demand for N15 million ransom to set him free.

The kidnappers was later reduced the ransom to N10 million.

However, Joel escaped miraculously from the hands of his abductors after spending some days in captivity.

In a similar incident, some persons broke into the house of a resident of Sapele town, popularly known as Kafancha at Crudas road.

When they could not get him at home, they took his Lexus Jeep and zoomed off.

The car was later found abandoned along Warri/ Sapele road with the key in the ignition.

In the third incident recorded last Wednesday night, as kidnappers visited the home of a resident at Shell road, Sapele.

They kidnapped the owner of the house, put him in his Venza car and zoomed off towards Warri.

As luck would have it, they ran into a trailer along Warri/ Sapele road, sustaining injuries, which made them to abandon the vehicle and their victim, as they escaped with their injuries.

The victim escaped as a result of the accident.

It was gathered that the kidnapping incidents have led to apprehension in the Sapele town as residents restrict movements at night.

However, the restriction of movement has resulted in downturn in businesses for restaurants and hospitality businesses operators.

A Police source at Sapele divisional Police station who pleaded anonymity, confirmed the incidents.

He advised residents of the town to avoid night movements and to be security conscious until the rampaging kidnappers are fished out.
