A fund and portfolio management company, Cowry Treasurers Limited, on Tuesday 9 August 2022 at The Civic Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos launched three mutual funds.

The funds geared towards addressing challenges and fulfilling the aspirations of investors in the financial market, according to the management, include Fixed Income Fund, Balanced Fund and Equity Fund. The funds, by design, are to provide safety net and guaranteed future for the investing public.

The high point of the event was the conversation segment where a four-expert discussion panel took the audience through the rudiments of portfolio investment and the synergic advantage of mutual funds.

The Managing Director/CEO of Cowry Treasures Limited, Charles Bayo Sanni, who moderated the discussion explained the motivation behind organisation of the discussion and the funds launching. According to him, “Cowry, as a group, has always had focus for knowledge and so much interest in how to add value to the system. That is why we organised a launch like this to share knowledge to investors and would be investors.”

Sanni stated further that it was in the light of the volatility of the country’s investment space and the recent unpalatable experiences of many investors in the hands of Ponzi scheme operators that the company decided to organise a conversation around investment decision making in volatile environment like Nigeria.

“The environment in which we are in today is such that it presents before us challenging times which seem to be more uncertain than ever before. Business decisions appear more complex, the need for investors to retool has become imperative.

“There are lots of volatilities in Nigeria. In terms of exchange volatility, you see the naira depreciating drastically, you see inflation elevated. Things have changed”, the CEO maintained. He added that, with all these, the need for would be investors to invest with professionals and avoid buying shares without knowledge could not be over emphasised.

According to a representative of one of the trustees to the funds at the event, Coronation Mutual Fund, Ms Shola, mutual funds have become a great choice among investments. She urged the public to invest in the newly launched funds while she assured would be investors of good returns and maximum protection their investment.

“As trustees to the newly launched funds by the Cowry Asset Management Limited, we are committed to ensuring that the utmost interests of investors are protected. Having been trustees to various transactions including mutual funds, we are experts in investor protection and we will ensure that your funds are adequately monitored”, the Coronation spokesperson assured.

The application form for investment in the funds was distributed to guests at the event, while other prospective investors were advised to visit the company’s website for information.
