Kenya election: VP William Ruto overtakes Raila Odinga

With 13,406,787 votes tallied in Kenya’s presidential election, Vice President William Ruto has taken the lead from veteran politician Raila Odinga.

Ruto has garnered 6,691,923 Votes or 49.91%, while Odinga, backed by President Uhuru Kenyatta, narrowly trailed with 6,624,238 Votes or 49.41%.

Results from 4,850 polling units are yet to be added to the figures, according to the tracking by Nation.

So far, Ruto is leading after results from 41,379 of 46,229 polling units have been counted.

The other two candidates, George Wajackoyah and David Waihiga have jointly polled about 90,000 votes.

Wajackoyah, a social media sensation before the poll has 59,404 Votes or 0.44% while Waihiga has of 31,222 Votes or 0.23%.

These are provisional figures as only Kenya’s Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) can give the official result.

A run-off election will be held if no candidate receives more than 50% of votes.
