The Lagos State Government has taken proactive measures to curb hazards in high-rise buildings and construction sites across the state.

In line with this, the Lagos State Safety Commission held a one day Sensitisation and Awareness Programme for facility managers in the state on Monday.

The theme of the event was ‘Risk Management in High Rise Building.’

The event took place at the Lagos State Government Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja.

Director -General, Lagos State Safety Commission, Lanre Mojola said the move was in tandem with the THEMES Agenda of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, in making Lagos State safe and habitable for residents and people living in the state.

According to him, the sessions were put together to rub minds with the facility managers to enable people work and live in a safe environment, by reducing injuries, accidents, fatalities across the State.

Mojola stated that the proactive engagement was necessary to compel companies with high rise buildings adhere to safety rules and regulations, such as having adequate signages, emergency exit, in the case of fire incidents and other hazards.

In his words: “The awareness and sensitisation programme is organised to take proactive measures and compel companies with high rise buildings adhere to safety rules and regulations, such as having adequate signages, emergency exit, in the case of fire incidents and other hazards.

“Thus, an indication that Lagos plans to have a zero tolerance for hazards in building construction sites and homes, hence the need to call all and sundry that matters in the built industry.”

Commissioner for Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations, Tayo Bamgbose-Martins, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Sesan Ogundeko, commended the efforts of the Lagos State Safety Commission and advised the participants to uphold safety standards at all times.

One hundred participants from both public and private sectors converged in Ikeja to take part in the safety advocacy Programme.
