The Nigerian Army on Saturday announced the dismissal of two soldiers who murdered a Yobe Islamic cleric, Goni Aisami, who rendered a help.

The soldiers are John Gabriel and Gideon Adamu.

Gabriel had on 19 August, 2022 murdered the Islamic cleric who helped him in his car, but he killed him along the way and attempted to steal his vehicle in connivance with Adamu.

Lieutenant Colonel I.O announced the dismissal of the officers on Saturday at an event held at the 241 RECCE Battalion Nguru, where the soldiers were serving, according to Premium Times.

Sabo, who is the acting Commanding General Officer, RECCE Battalion, told said newsmen were aware of what happened last week when personnel serving at the unit went out to commit atrocities and were arrested by the Nigeria police.

He said the army had  done the needful, which was dismissing them from service in the first phase.

“The first phase of what we did was to initiate a military police investigation and the report gave us the latitude to sanction them based on the sections of Armed Forces laws.

“They are now officially dismissed from the regiment from the Nigerian Army. We are taking them back to the sector headquarters in Damaturu which will now officially hand them over to the Nigeria Police to face their civil prosecution,” he said.

Sabo said obviously, the dismissed soldiers could never represent the army, as army officers were being paid by the Nigerian taxpayers’ money to hold guns and defend this country, but that the soldiers were not the true reflection of the Nigerian Army personnel.

“We want to assure you that we are law-abiding citizens and we want to dispense justice. If I am found wanting like these men, the same thing will happen to me,” he said.
