Outgoing UK Prime Minister, Boris Johnson and the incoming PM, Liz Truss are on their way to Balmoral to meet Queen Elizabeth for change of baton.
They both left their base separately on Tuesday morning.
Johnson is expected to hit Balmoral around 11.00am to meet the queen to announce his stepping down as PM while Truss will arrive shortly after for her takeover.
According to BBC’s Ben Philip, several journalists and camera crews had gathered outside the famous, highly protected gates of the Queen’s Royal Deeside retreat at Balmoral.
“We’re expecting Boris Johnson to arrive shortly after 11am. Liz Truss will follow soon after. The forecast rain showers have started,” he said.
Earlier, several cars carrying Johnson to see the Queen had departed from the runway in Aberdeen airport.
The drive to the Highlands is expected to take just over an hour, with the outgoing prime minister then due to meet the queen at about 11:20 BST.
Johnson and his wife Carrie had earlier left RAF Northolt on a small plane, heading off on the hour-long journey to Aberdeenshire.
Also, the plane carrying soon-to-be prime minister Liz Truss has departed RAF Northolt in London, heading for Aberdeen.
She will be then conveyed to Balmoral, where she will meet the Queen after Boris Johnson, who is currently en route to the highlands himself.
