IPOB members arrested over killing of 2 policemen in Ebonyi

Members of Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, allegedly responsible for killing of an Inspector, Sergeant during attack on the Divisional Police headquarters in Ugbodo in Ebonyi local government area have been arrested.

Gunmen attacked the police station on May 22, 2021 at about 12:00 pm during which they killed the Inspector and a Sergeant who were on duty.

Ebonyi Police Command spokesperson, Chris Anyanwu, in a statement in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State capital on Tuesday said the killers of the police officers were among 20 suspects allegedly working for Eastern Security Network (ESN), the armed wing of IPOB.

He added that operatives of the command’s tactical teams have been on the trail of the hoodlums since the murder of the policemen.

Anyawu added that acting on credible information, the suspects were intercepted along Ishieke road in a yellow mini-bus without registration number.

He said that on sighting the police team, the hoodlums opened fire, but men of the command demobilised their vehicle and arrested some of them while others escaped.

The Police spokesperson listed the names of some of the arrested alleged IPOB members as Chimezie Emeh, Anthony Joseph Osilame, Peter Egbunike and Ifeanyi Emetu. Others are Longinus Idenyi, Ogbonnaya Neankwo, H Mezie and Eze Nnabuike.

Anyanwu said the command also recovered some vehicles, including Toyota Corolla LE, Toyota Camry 2002 model, Toyota Camry (Tiny Light) and Toyota Sienna, 2000 model.
