Xavi Hernandez believes Barcelona were better against Bayern Munich but lost because they fail to take advantage of the goal chances created.
Xavi spoke after second-half goals from Lucas Hernandez and Leroy Sane condemned his side to yet another loss in Bavaria.
Barcelona looked the more threatening, especially in the first half but failed to beat Manuel Neuer
Speaking after the match, Xavi said: “When you fail to take advantage of your chances in the Champions League, you end up paying for it. We have been better than Bayern. But they do take advantage of the chances, that’s the difference.”
“The result doesn’t reflect what has been seen on the pitch. It’s a step back. The defeat is because of our mistakes.”
“We have been better than Bayern in many aspects. We have matched them in intensity, rhythm and physicality. In the first half with the ball we were excellent, but I’m angry because today was a day to win here, not to tie.”
“I’m proud of the way we played but we need to improve some aspects, especially in both areas.”
“If you want to compete in the Champions League you have to be better in the areas. We have been better than Bayern in the game, but it’s decided by details and you pay for mistakes. It’s a tough lesson for us.”
