At least 11 local farmers were shot dead by militant from the Islamic State of the West African Province (ISWAP) in the southern part of  Toumour in Niger Republic.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, at around 6 p.m., when 13 loggers, who set out in search of wood, were intercepted by ISWAP elements.

The ISWAP had before the attack issued warning to all local farmers and fishermen to vacate some of the island, accusing them of leaking information about their hideouts.

Zagazola understands that the 11 people that were shot, were later recovered to toumour where they were later buried.

A delegation consisting Mayors of Bosso and Toumour, Bosso canton chief, Toumour Peulh group leader, Bosso Prefect, Mr Arimi attended the burial of the deceased farmers who left 69 orphans behind.
