Kogi: Lawmakers shut down mining company

Kogi State House of Assembly has directed that a company, ETA Zuma Mining Industry Limited, be shut down immediately over alleged failure to make some requested documents and being rude to the lawmakers.

Chairman of the Ad hoc Committee probing mining industries in the State, Umar Tenimu gave the directive on Monday during the continuation of the public investigative hearing in the House.

Tenimu said the company would remain shut until it addresses the controversies about its registration with Kogi Ministry of Solid Minerals and paid the social contribution funds as well as other fees to the state.

The Chairman also directed that all companies in the state must register with the Ministry of Solid Minerals within one month without which they should be shut down.

Earlier a member, Hilarion Musa had suggested shutting the company until the necessary documents are made available.

He accused the company of insincerity since 2014 when it commenced operation in the state.

Two other members Ahmed Dahiru and Ademola Bello said the company was trying to buy time and it was obvious it has no documents. They then seconded shutting down the company till it was ready to do the needful

The clerk of the committee was directed to communicate National Civil Defence Corps to effect the order.
