The hope of Senate President, Ahmad Lawan of returning to the senate next year has been dashed as a Federal High Court in Damaturu, Yobe State on Wednesday ordered the APC and INEC to recognise Bashir Machina as the duly elected candidate.

Justice Fadima Aminu, who is the presiding judge, cancelled the parallel primary election that produced the Lawan, on June 9, 2022.

Justice Aminu ordered the APC to submit the name of Machina to INEC as the duly elected candidate of the party.

Machina had won the APC senatorial primary in May while Lawan who wanted to be president, lost the APC presidential primary election to Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.
