Members of the Board of Trustees, BoT of Peoples Democratic Party led by former Senate President, Senator Adolphus Wabara are locked in a crucial closed-door meeting with Governor Nyesom Wike and his team at Government House, Port Harcourt.

A source said Governor Wike had insisted that the meeting should be covered by the media, but members of the Board of Trustees insisted that journalists should be kept out.

They promised that the media will be briefed about the outcome of the crucial meeting.

Consequently, journalists who had earlier gathered for the meeting were asked to leave the hall.

The PDP BOT members were said to have arrived at the Rivers State Government’s House at about 12.30 pm

Wike and his group have been insisting the National Chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayu should resign following the emergence of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, a Northerner like him as the presidential candidate of the party.

Wike and four other Governors from the Southern part of the country had said it was not fair that the National Chairman and the Presidential Candidate of PDP should be from the North.

But Ayu, who was elected into office in December 2012 insisted that he will not vacate the seat until the end of his four-year tenure.

Atiku also insisted that Ayu cannot be sacked without following the constitution of the PDP.

But Wike and the governors who are supporting him insisted that they will not be part of Atiku’s campaign if their demands are not met.

The ongoing meeting of the BoT members with Wike is believed to be part of efforts to resolve the crises.
