A Chief Superintendent of Police, CSP and Divisional Police Officer of Birnin Gwari Police Division, Kaduna State, Sani Mohammed Gyadi-Gyadi is set to be released three months after he was abducted.

Gyadi-Gyadi was abducted along the Birnin Gwari road on his way to report as the new DPO in the division in Kaduna State in June 2022.

His family had repeatedly appealed to government for his rescue from the captivity of the kidnappers.

There were reports that his abductors demanded N250 million to set him free, but later reduced the ransom to N80m.

However, it was learnt that though the family were able to raise some funds for the release of the Gyadi-Gyadi, his abductors refused to release him after releasing the funds.

The DPO’s elder brother Musa Muhammad Gyadi-Gyadi told BBC Hausa that the police officer usually tell the how he was being tortured anytime his abductors called them.

He said: “We are talking to him on the bandit’s phone. The officer told me that all the rain this year is falling on him, and he is sick and has a blood clot. He begged us to save his life. He said they were chained. He was just begging us to save them, because he is currently defecating blood, stooling, and has pain in his leg.

However, following the release of 23 remaining train hostages on Wednesday, PR Nigeria reports that the Birnin Gwari DPO is also about to be freed by his abductors.

An intelligence source told PRNigeria that all efforts towards securing the freedom of the officer have been completed.

“While I won’t like to preempt the ongoing processes, any moment from now the police officer will be freed from the captivity,” the source was quoted as saying.
