Lagos charges directors to be innovative, creative

The Lagos State Government has charged 120 directors in the public service to be creative and innovative in their approach to deliverables.

Head of Service, Hakeem Muri-Okunola spoke on Thursday at a three-day retreat programme for 120 directors of Administration and Human Resource (HR) in the Lagos State Public Service held in Victoria Island, Lagos.

Muri-Okunola charged the directors and HR managers to see themselves as professionals who ensure processes and procedures effectively and efficiently aligned with the goals and objectives of MDAs that are critical to the Lagos THEMES agenda.

The Head of Service, who was represented by the the Permanent Secretary, Public Service Office, Mrs Sunkanmi Oyegbola, saidthe managers could be innovative and creative in their approach to deliverables by encouraging and ensuring that their team attend trainings on the Learning Management System and create mutual working relationship within and around their work environment.

He also urged them to keep the flag flying in the strategic HR Eco- systems by ensuring that they have clear understanding of roles and act as a northern star for ministries , departments and agencies they are posted.

According to him, “As Directors of Administration and Human resources, you must all be innovative and creative in your approach to deliverables by ensuring and encouraging your team to attend trainings on the learning management system (LMS), monitoring post-training and introduction of a learning clinic within your MDAs for knowledge sharing.”

Muri-Okunola also charged the HR managers to encourage their downlines to set goals that would help drive overarching objectives while encouraging self development and growth

Earlier, Oyegbola advised participants to maximize the advantages of the programme, saying now is the time to rescue the cadre and return it to the enviable position it occupied in the past.

She said they must bite the bullet where necessarily to attract, nurture and retain the best talents in the HR cadre.

“Let’s utilise the rare opportunity to harness the wealth of knowledge from our facilitators with a view to adding value to our work. Also, this is an avenue away from work to freely interact with your colleagues and share experience or understand new work culture. Now is the time to rescue our cadre and return it to the enviable position”, Oyegbola said.

Director, Service Matters, Public Service Office, Princess Bopo Oyekan-Ismaila, urged the participants to utilise the opportunity of the retreat to learn new things that would affect the state positively.
