Quick Read

Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso wondered why the PDP's governorship candidate would be playing politics with the issue.

Contrary to reports that the Lagos PDP’s governorship candidate, Abdul-Azeez Adediran aka Jandor paid over N500,000 for the mortuary bill of the late fashion designer, Oluwabamise Ayanwola, it was the Lagos State Government that actually paid the mortuary bill.

The 22-year old Ayanwola was allegedly raped and murdered in February by a BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) driver, Andrew Ominnikoron.

The driver is standing trial before a Lagos high court sitting at Tafawa Balewa Square.

Ayanwola’s remains are still at the Mainland Hospital mortuary in Yaba.

The fashion designer was found dead few days after she boarded BRT.

The News Agency of Nigeria had reported that Jandor claimed he paid the mortuary bill of over N500,000.

But findings by PM NEWS showed that it was the Lagos State Government that actually paid the money and not Jandor as he claimed.

According to the receipt of the payment obtained by PM NEWS, the state government paid N588,000.00 to the  LSG MAINLAND HOSPITAL CONSOLIDATED ACCOUNT. Account number: 1014513951 .

The money was paid on October 12, 2022.

Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso wondered why the PDP’s governorship candidate would be playing politics with the issue.

He said the government actually paid the money and not Jandor as he claimed, challenging him to show the receipt of the payment he claimed to have made.

The deceased’s brother, Mr Oluwapelumi Ayanwola-Abegunde, had said that the family members were taken aback when they were notified by the mortuary attendant that the morgue bill had accumulated to more than N500,000 and that the family was expected to pay it.
