Terrorists on motorcycles attacked Gatakawa village in Kankara Local Government Area, Katsina State, on Wednesday.
The terrorists shot sporadically with AK-47 rifles, killed two villagers, and kidnapped eighteen persons.
However, the operations of the criminals were not successful. They were repelled by the police.
Giving details on Thursday, SP Gambo Isah, the spokesperson of the police command in Katsina explained that the attack took place on Oct. 12, at about 1 a.m.
According to him, on receipt of the report of terrorism from the villagers, the DPO Kankara Division led tactical units to the area and engaged the terrorists in a fierce gun duel leading to the release of everyone kidnapped.
“The team successfully repelled the terrorists from their heinous mission and rescued all the kidnapped victims.
“In the course of scanning the scene, five motorcycles and two cows were recovered. Sadly, two villagers were killed and one was injured by the suspects.
“Many suspected bandits were neutralized. Investigation is ongoing.” Isah added.
