Nigeria’s Flamingos have beaten the United States 4-3 on penalties to reach the semi-final of the Under-17 Women’s World Cup in India.

The Nigerian side defeated the American girls in the quarter-final to reach the semi-final.

The match had ended 1-1 on duration time and after extra-time. A shootout was needed to decide the winner of the encounter.

Edafe Omamuso scored the last kick that sent the Nigerian girls through to the semi-finals.

Earlier, the Flamingos took the lead in the match played at Navi Mumbai through Edafe from the penalty spot after Amina Bello was fouled inside the box.

She fired the Nigerian sides into the lead to make it 0-1, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way.

On 35 minutes, the Americans pilled the pressure on the Nigerian defence but keeper Omilana came to the rescue again.

The Americans equalised five minutes later after a deflection off Folorunsho.

The match progressed into extra-time and then penalty and the Nigerian girls triumphed.
