At least, 100 Members of Parliaments (MPs) are now backing former Prime Minister, Boris Johnson to take over from Liz Truss as PM.
Johnson had handed over to Truss, but Truss announced her resignation from the position last Thursday after just 44 days as PM.
The former PM is said to be staging a comeback, as he returned to the UK from his Caribbean holiday, on Saturday.
Though he has not declared his intention to vie for the illustrious office yet, many of is supporters are working underground for his return, with some openly declaring their support for him.
Right now, ex-Chancellor Rishi Sunak, appears to be favourite, but he is yet to declare his interest 48 hours to deadline.
According to Chris Mason, BBC’s Political Editor, Boris Johnson now has more than 100 backers among Conservative MPs, quoting a campaign source, meaning he could be on the ballot on Monday if he chose to be.
This is more than the number of publicly declared backers for Johnson, which stand at 49, according to BBC research.
Officially, 186 out of 357 Tory MPs have gone public with their support for three people.
While 114 MPs are backing Sunak, Johnson has 50 MPs backing him, while Penny Mordaunt, who has already declared his interest for the job has 22 MPs.
