President Joe Biden has described as a threat Republican leaders’ plan to crash the economy by putting the US in default.

He said the republicans had vowed to carry out the plan unless his government yielded to their demand to cut Social Security and Medicare.

Biden tweeted: “Republican leaders have made it clear they will crash the economy by putting the United States in default unless we yield to their demand to cut Social Security and Medicare. And that’s more than a promise. It’s a threat.”

Earlier, he tweeted that his administration had delivered the largest climate investment in history, lower health care and drug costs, and the revitalization of American manufacturing.

“We’re going from historic economic recovery to more steady and stable growth while reducing deficit.
