Moment fire broke out at WAEC's Headquarters in Lagos (video)

WAEC's office on fire

Fire razed the headquarters of the West African Examination Council (WAEC) in Lagos on Wednesday morning, with seven staff rescued from the building.

The fire was said to have occurred on Wednesday morning around 7:10am.

It was gathered that the inferno emanated as a result of electrical surge from the lift.

Thick smokes and balls of fire was seen bellowing the sky from the topmost of the building.

According to report, some of staff injured were taken to the nearby hospital for prompt treatment.

But WAEC, in reacting to the incident, said the situation is under control.

Acting Head of the Public Affairs Unit of WAEC, Moyosola Adesina, in a statement said “The Management of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), wishes to inform the general public that there was an early morning fire incident at the WAEC National Office, Yaba, Lagos. It was swiftly contained by a combined team of fire fighters.

“Thankfully, no life was lost and all important documents and records are intact. Thank you.”

Adesina said no one was hurt and that everyone in the building was successfully evacuated by fire fighters.
