Governor of Osun State, Gboyega Oyetola, said he hopes to commission the Osogbo-Iwo-Ibadan road in the next 18 months despite losing the July 16 Osun governorship election to Ademola Adeleke.
Oyetola, who has filed a petition at Tribunal against Adeleke’s victor, made the statement on Thursday after the flag-off of the reconstruction of the 91km road.
Oyetola who flag-off the reconstruction alongside Governor Seyi Makinde thanked the Oyo governor for being a partner in progress and a leader who puts the people of Oyo State first irrespective of political differences.

The Osun state governor said: “Another history was made today as I and my brother in Oyo State, Governor Seyi Makinde flagged off the reconstruction of the 91km Osogbo-Iwo-Ibadan road. A road inherited by the two states at the creation of Osun from old Oyo State in the year 1991.
“However, this road has been in deplorable condition for years and had brought untold hardship to motorists and commuters.
“Specifically, the Osogbo-Iwo section had hitherto been in a bad state, wasting man-hours and constituting huge socio-economic malaise to the two states, especially given its status as the shortest route to Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
“I appreciate Governor Seyi Makinde for been a partner in progress and a leader who puts the people of Oyo State first, irrespective of our political differences.
“Our administration considers this road project of utmost importance and the award of its reconstruction further demonstrates our commitment to the infrastructural development of the State and the well-being of the citizenry. It is equally another fulfillment of my electioneering promise to the citizens of Osun, particularly the Iwo people.
When completed, the road will no doubt further boost the socio-economic activities of our dear State, especially because it is an addition to the massive road networks our administration had unleashed on the State. It is our hope that the immediate benefitting towns and other parts of the State will take advantage of the road for personal economic gains.
“I urge the contractors awarded this people-oriented project to abide by the specifications and also deliver in record time.
“It is my hope that by the special Grace of God, I will be the one to commission the project when completed in the next 18 months.”
