JUST IN: 21 children abducted by terrorists in Katsina freed

Twenty-one children abducted while working on a farmland at Kamfanin Mai Lafiya village, Faskari LGA of Katsina state have been released after nearly one week in captivity.

Katsina Police Command spokesperson, SP Gambo Isah confirmed the release of the victims comprising of 17 girls and four boys in a statement on Saturday evening.

However, he did not indicate if the demand of the kidnappers of the children for N30 million ransom as reported by a section of the media was met.

But Isah said the children have been reunited with their respective families while police will continue investigations on the abduction.

“Good evening Gentlemen of the Press. It is with great joy that I announce the release of all the 21 abducted workers that were kidnapped while working in a farmland at Kamfanin Mai Lafiya village, Faskari LGA of Katsina state.

Police had earlier confirmed that the children,aged between 15 and 18 years were abducted last on Sunday afternoon.

He had also confirmed that Police was working to rescue the children.

However, the abduction of the children had led to concerns, with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) urging authorities to swing into action to rescue them

In a statement signed its representative in Nigeria, Ms Cristian Munduate, the UNICEF described the abductions as “reprehensible.”
