Bakare Mariam Iyunade’s tenure as Vice President of Ikenne Remo Youth Association

Bakare Mariam Iyunade, popularly known as Mariams ASMR, served as Vice President of the Ikenne Remo Youth Association in Ogun State from 2018 to 2022, a period during which she combined community leadership with the early stages of her career as a content creator and entrepreneur.

Her tenure coincided with a period in which youth organisations across Nigeria increasingly focused on skills acquisition, entrepreneurship and civic participation as responses to unemployment and limited economic opportunities facing young people.

Born on March 14, 1995, in Lagos, Bakare relocated with her family to Ogun State in 2004. She has said that helping her mother sell snacks while growing up shaped her understanding of resilience and financial responsibility, experiences that later influenced her approach to youth engagement.

Before assuming the vice-presidential role, Bakare had participated in beauty pageants and had begun establishing herself in digital content creation. In 2018, she founded Mariam’s ASMR Studio and Maiycare Enterprise Ltd., marking the beginning of her entrepreneurial career.

As Vice President of the association, Bakare participated in organising leadership programmes, youth meetings, skills-development initiatives and community activities aimed at encouraging civic participation among young people in Ikenne Remo. According to information provided by Bakare, the association also promoted entrepreneurship, education, and personal development through its programmes.

Her leadership role coincided with a period of growing interest among young Nigerians in entrepreneurship and digital careers, with many youth organisations encouraging members to develop practical skills alongside formal education.

Bakare completed her four-year tenure in 2022, after which she continued to focus on digital content creation and business development.
