A group, known as The Complete Woman (TCW) is organizing a medical outreach for women in Lagos State to equip them with health awareness and how to prevent life-threatening diseases common to the female gender.
The outreach is taking place at the Police College, Oba Akinjobi Way, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos on Saturday, 26th of November, 2022.
The Complete Woman Initiative is an organization formed in May 2020 by Mrs. Tunrayo Falade, a lawyer, to mould and remould the 21st century women and girls to be well-rounded through regular online and on-site training, empowerment programmes, seminars, life-building activities and tasks.
The organization has representations in about 29 states of Nigeria and in 8 African countries.
TCW, in a statement issued by the founder, Falade on Tuesday, said in the “world we live in today, a lot of women are coming down with different kinds of ailments and are losing their lives in large numbers on a daily basis. This is so either because they are not aware or they do not know how to manage these ailments.
“In view of this, The Complete Woman Group has planned to have a medical outreach tagged “Pathway to Healthy Living in Times Like These” which will take place at The Police College, Oba Akinjobi Way, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos on Saturday 26th of November, 2022.
“This programme seeks to bring all categories of women in Lagos together where qualified health practitioners will teach and create awareness on the most prevalent diseases among the women folk and how to prevent or manage such diseases.”
Highlights of the medical outreach include health talks on breast cancer awareness, cervical cancer, general health tips, question and answer session; physical exercise, free medical consultation and free drugs; medical checkup, such as blood pressure, blood sugar level, malaria test, body mass index and body temperature.
Others include eye screening and dental check, breast examination, cervical cancer screening, family planning counseling and services, distribution of mosquito nets, among others.
Falade said the expected participants are women of all categories between the ages of 20 and 65.
“Amongst the Guest Speakers at the event is a breast cancer survivor who will share her story to create an awareness on breast cancer and how she managed the condition. Dr. Efe Dunoi-Afam, MD, Fuller Health Hospital is the coordinator of the medical doctors at the event. She will be sensitizing participants on cervical cancer and will be available for free consultation along with members of her team.
“Dr. Mercy Udeagwu, CEO, Gloryview Eye Clinic is the head of the Eye Screening team while Mr. Anthony Mgbeji CMD, Tonero Dental Services coordinates the dental services at the event. The medical outreach is generally coordinated by Mrs Folawe Oshiame.
“The medical outreach is sponsored by Ikeja Local Government of Lagos and some other private organizations,” she said.
Meanwhile, Falade disclosed that the teenage girls are not left out as they shall be having a Teenage Girls Conference, tagged “Beautiful, Brainy and Blossoming” on the same day, Saturday 26th November, 2022 at Police College, Ikeja, Lagos by 9am where discussions around menstrual hygiene, self-development, skill acquisition on how to make reusable pads, sexual abuse and sex education would take place.
“Participants for the Teenage Girls Conference will have access to a Counselor each, a professional who will be available to guide the young ones appropriately where counseling is required. In order to fulfill the objective of the Conference which bothers on building the future of teenage girls in spite of the prevalent moral decadence and other vices.
“The Organizers of the conference, The Complete Woman plans to distribute sanitary pads to all the participants among several other gestures up her sleeves,” she disclosed.
