Assembly okays establishment of anti-corruption commission

The Adamawa House of Assembly has passed a bill for a law to establish an anti-corruption commission in its efforts to fight corrupt activities in the state.

Alhaji Aminu Iya-Abbas, Speaker of the Assembly, made this known in an interview on Tuesday in Yola.

He said the anti-graft commission is expected to complement the efforts of other agencies in fighting corruption in the state.

“When set up, the agency will promote accountability and transparency as well as address financial crimes.”

”The bill for a law to provide for the establishment of the Adamawa State Anti-Corruption Commission was sponsored during plenary by Malam Abubakar Isah, PDP-Shellang constituency,” he said.

Iya-Abbas said the assembly has directed the clerk to the house to prepare and forward a draft copy of the bill to Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri for assent.
