Quick Read

Awa stated that he and the late Olawale had known each other since the latter's days as the Special Assistant on the environment to Governor Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration between 1999 and 2007.

President-General of the Agbarijo Egbe Odo Yoruba (Grand Council of Yoruba Youths), Comrade Awa Bamiji has described the deaths of two prominent Yoruba personalities- the late lawmaker representing Mushin Constituency II, Mr Sobur Olayiwola Olawale and the beautiful wife of Lagos State Chief of Staff, Princess Adedoyin Raliat Ojora Ayinde whose incidents occurred within 48 hours.

Awa Bamiji in a release sent to P.M.NEWS on Wednesday said he was at the Ikeja GRA home of the Chief of Staff Tayo Ayinde on Tuesday to console him over the unfortunate demise of his wife Princess Ayinde when at about 8:30 pm he received news of the death of another compatriot, Olayiwola Olawale, popularly called ‘Omititi’.

Awa stated that he and the late Olawale had known each other since the latter’s days as the Special Assistant on the environment to Governor Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration between 1999 and 2007.

“We knew each other from the period when we had Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the Executive Governor of Lagos State between 1999 and 2007. Then, he was a Special Assistant to the Governor on environment alongside another close friend and Son of Senator Ayo Fasanmi, the late Leader of Afenifere, Hon Afolabi Fasanmi.

“Through my effective cooperation from family’s side, he was highly instrumental to the Lagos State House of Assembly’s involvement in the funeral ceremony of Late Prof Akinwunmi Isola in some years past, in Ibadan, which later led to the glamorous arrival of the entourage of the Lagos State House of Assembly led by my dear brother and political associate of decades, the Honourable Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa at the Anglican Church Service, by Agodi/Gate B/Stop, Ibadan.

“My Car broke down late at night one day on my way out of Lagos, after Berger and before the long bridge and I couldn’t do otherwise than to reach him on phone and immediately, he arranged for my hotel accommodation around the same place and the mechanic that solved the problem the following morning”, Awa said of the late lawmaker.

He paid glowing tribute to his beloved friend and described the deceased’s contributions to law-making in Lagos as great and excellent.

“What a double Tragedy! I am at a loss right now. Omititi of Africa, goodnight!”, Awa Bamiji mourned.

He prayed for the repose of the deceased’s souls and for God to grant the families of both of them the fortitude to bear their demise.
