Enner Valencia scored a brace as Ecuador beat host Qatar 0-2 in the opening match of 2022 World Cup.

Valencia had earlier scored on three minutes, but VAR overruled the goal for an offside in the build up.

But he made amend from the penalty spot on 16th minute from the penalty spot.

Saad Al Sheeb was trying to get to the ball but clattered into the legs of the opponent as well. Daniele Orsato blew his whistle for an infringement.

Valencia won the battle of wills and sent an unstoppable penalty past Saad Al Sheeb into the bottom right corner.

He got his brace on 31st minute of the game to make it 0-2 for the visitors.

Angelo Preciado sent a precise lofted pass into the box, Valencia rose above the defenders to meet the ball near the penalty spot and headed it straight into the left side of the goal.

The second half was goalless as Qatar mounted the pressure to score at least a goal.

On 35th minute, Romario Ibarra found himself in space on the edge of the box and smashed a glorious looking effort towards the right side of the goal, but Saad Al Sheeb thwarted him with a great two-handed save.
On 86th minute, Mohammed Muntari wasted a big chance, as he unleashed a shot from the edge of the box and it went narrowly over the crossbar.
