Four men, including a teenager, have been arrested for their involvement in jungle justice, which led to the killing of a man in Edo State.
The suspects are: Emmanuel Igube (19), Gabriel Akuba (20), Monday Nathaniel (30) and Matthew Gimba (39).
The Public Relations Officer of the State Police Command, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, in a statement on Monday, disclosed that the suspects allegedly mobbed to death a yet-to-be-identified man, over an allegation that he stole an unregistered motorcycle.
They allegedly committed the offence on Sunday, 27 November, 2022, at Iyanamo Community, off Ekehuan Army Barracks Road, Benin City.
Nwabuzor disclosed that the suspects are assisting the police in their investigation.
Meanwhile, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Dankwara, has expressed displeasure over incessant cases of jungle justice in the State.
Dankwara in a statement, implored citizens of the State to repose a little more confidence in the rule of law and in the law enforcement institutions.
Meanwhile, CP Dankwara has directed that the case be transferred from Evbuotubu Police Station to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), in Benin, for further investigation.
Jungle justice has been very common in Nigeria with people taken laws into their hands.
