Firm drags three workers to court accused of stealing property

The management of SUJIMOTO Construction Company in Lagos, Nigeria has dragged three of its workers to a Lagos Magistrate’s Court for allegedly conniving to steal electrical cables valued at N100,000.

The police said the accused, James Yusuf, 49, Isaac Yohana, 37, and Samuel Abraham, 25, who are storekeeper, driver and security man respectively stole the property and loaded them inside an operational vehicle and as they made to drive out from the premises, the vigilant security men on duty stopped the vehicle for a search during which they discovered the cable and apprehended them.

The complainant was said to have sent a distress call to the Divisional Police Officer, DPO in charge of Ikoyi Division, lkoyi, Lagos who swiftly dispatched his men led by Inspector Itafor Ernest to the scene to arrest the suspects.

The accused who are residents of Killington, Alagbado and Ikotun Egbe, Lagos were charged before the Tinubu Magistrate’s Court.

They were charged with a two-count charge bordering on conspiracy and stealing.

Police Counsel, Hafsat Ajibode informed the Court in the charge marked M/42/2022 that the defendants committed the offence on 18, November, 2022 at Lucresa Site, Banana Island, Ikoyi, Lagos.

Ajibode told the court that the defendants stole the cables and hid them inside an operational vehicle and made to drive out of the site but that nemesis caught up with them when the security men on duty searched the vehicle and discovered the cables.

Ajibode said the offences the defendants committed were punishable under sessions 411 and 287 (7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges and Magistrate Gbajumo Ayoku granted them N50,000 bail each with one surety each in like sum.

Ayoku adjourned the case till 21 December, 2022 for mention and ordered that the defendants be detained at the Ikoyi correctional facility till they perfected the bail conditions.
