Croatia beat Morocco to claim bronze

Croatia beat African side Morocco 2-1 on Saturday to claim the bronze medal at the World Cup in Qatar.

Croatia, who were runner-up in 2018, emerged third in Qatar after a wonderful performance.

Morocco, the best African side ever at the World Cup, having reached the semi-finals and played in third place match, have indeed made Africa proud.

Croatia opened scoring on 7th minute. Ivan Perisic peeled away from his marker to connect with the resulting free kick and headed the ball towards Josko Gvardiol, who did brilliantly to nod the ball into the net.

Morocco equalised two minutes later. Achraf Dari got to the ball and produced a sweet header that went low inside the right post.

Mislav Orsic missed a good chance to score on 18th minute. An inch-perfect cross into the box found Orsic who rose for a header, but sent the ball well over the bar.
Luka Modric blew a good opportunity in the first half, he had a lot of space around him and fired a decent low shot from the edge of the box towards the middle of the net, but the goalkeeper made a brilliant save and stopped the ball.
Three minutes to the end of first half, Croatia struck again. Orsic latched on to a superb pass inside the box, found himself in a promising position and fired a shot in off the inside of the right post to make it 2-1.
On 74th minute, Josko Gvardiol went down under a challenge in the box, but the referee immediately waved away the appeals from all players.
Two minutes later, Youssef En Nesyri thought he had scored after reacting fastest to a lofted ball into the box, but Dominik Livakovic pulled a rabbit out of the hat and made a stunning save to thwart him for close range.
