Moghalu assures NIWA staff of improved salary, welfare packages

Dr. George Moghalu, the Managing Director/ Chief Executive Officer of National Inland Waterways Authority, NIWA said plan to increase the salary and other welfare packages for staff of the organisation has reached an advanced stage and only waiting for final approval.

This was disclosed by Moghalu during the end of year party of the agency at its headquarter in Lokoja on Tuesday.

He noted that the agency’s staff receive about the lowest remuneration in the maritime industry and pledged to continue the legitimate pursuit of pay rise.

“Asking for pay rise and better working condition is like preaching to the Pope. If there is salary increase for you it will also affect me positively. When they increase staff salary, they will also definitely increase MD’s. I have taken note of the points raised by labour leaders including 13th month salary and other emoluments. We are almost there.

The ceremony witnessed eating, drinking and dancing. Awards were also given to deserving staff who distinguished themselves in the passing year.

Earlier Moghalu had paid condolence visit to Palace of the late Maigari of Lokoja, Alhaji Dr Muhammadu Kabir Maikarfi III over his demise.

He described the late monarch as a father who was not only knowledgeable but reliable.
