Some Fashion designers are making brisk businesses in the Enugu metropolis and its environs this yuletide celebration.

A Correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), who spoke to a cross-section of them on Wednesday, observed that most of the fashion designers were busy making their customers’ dresses as they express happiness over the high patronage of their services.

Miss Oluchi Igwe, a tailor at Amechi axis of Enugu, said that most of them were really making good business in spite of the complaints from many practitioners in other sectors.

“I have been sleeping in my shop since the beginning of December so as not to disappoint my customers.

“At the moment, more people are still bringing their cloth for me to make.

“A blouse and a skirt for an adult go for between N6,000 and N10,000, while those for children are sewn for between N4,000 and N8,000\, depending on their choices of styles,” she narrated.

Mr Uche Eze, another fashion designer at Agbani Road, noted that the reason for the rush was that many people now preferred to use local fabrics like Nigerian Wax or Super Wax to make their dresses and shirts.

Eze said that a shirt and a pair of trousers for men go for between N8,000 and N12,000 depending on their styles.

Another designer in Achara Layout, Mr Paul Michael, said he had been busy since the last week of November as a result of his numerous customers requesting him to make their cloth.

Eze explained that he had been working more at night as the power supply he used in designing the materials was more constant at night for him to get the customers’ clothes ready.

“I have been working tirelessly, especially at night which is the only time my area normally has light.

“Most of my customers will not want to hear any excuse from me as most of them had made advanced payment to ensure I deliver at the due time,” he said.

Miss Uju Okoye, a fashion designer said it had been a very good season for her and her apprentices in terms of making more money as they had to put a lot of hard work to meet the needs of her customers.
