Yuletide: FRSC deploys 5 ambulances, 1,000 men in Sokoto

The  Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), has stationed five ambulances and deployed 1,000 combined personnel to ensure prompt rescue operations and traffic control in Sokoto State.
Mr Kabiru Yusuf-Nadabo, the FRSC Sokoto state Sector Commander stated this at a press briefing on Saturday in Sokoto.
Yusuf-Nadabo said ambulances along with other operational vehicles were placed at strategic highways to ensure hitchfree yuletide festivities and cautioned road users against violating traffic rules.
He said the deployed personnel comprised corps, special marshalls, officials of National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Red Cross and other volunteers.
He said that the ultimate goal was to ensure safer roads, timely response to all unforseen circumstances and professionalism in all dealings.
According to him, FRSC ensures wider awareness initiatives in different media outfits, collaborate with National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Tricycles Riders Association and others on the drivers.
The sector commander said that statistics indicated decrease in road crashes and cases of offenders’ arrest which showed that operations were yielding positive impact in the society.
He said FRSC organised special prayers  at the Sultan Bello Mosque on Friday led by the Chief Imam, Malami Akwara, while a Church service was also expected to include prayers against cases of road carnages and for the attainment of peaceful festivities.
Yusuf-Nadabo warned motorists to adhere to traffic regulations, guard against underaged driving, speeding, overloading, drunk driving and other traffic violations.
He commended Sokoto state government for its support to FRSC activities, saying that the government had provided ambulances and medics for the exercise.
The sector commander said tackling disasters should be the collective responsibility of all citizens and enjoined people to cooperate with FRSC to ensure accident-free roads in the country.
