Delta Commissioner of Police, Ari Ali, cleared air on the circumstances surrounding the death of the medical doctor during a meeting with members of the state chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association on Tuesday.
According to a statement issued the spokesman for the State Police Command, DSP Bright Edafe, CP Ari told the NMA members that Dr. Iluobe was killed by gunmen who were called to come to the hospital by a lady who had pretended as a patient.
The lady whose name and address were not known came to the hospital at about 7:40pm to complain of abdominal pain, but while the doctor was attending to her, she made a phone call to the suspects whom she invited to come and pay her bill.
But the people she called on phone later turned out to be gunmen stormed the hospital in a Toyota vehicle, barged into the doctor’s office, and shot him dead.
The Police spokesperson said the purported female patient fled alongside the suspects.
“It is pertinent to state clearly that the rumour making the rounds that the family members of a supposedly dead patient were responsible for the murder of the doctor is completely false and should be disregarded as there is no record of any patient that died prior to the unfortunate incident,” the police said in the statement.
He added that the police need assistance of all and sundry in the effort to lift the veil off the face of the perpetrators.
