Quick Read

Adamawa, where Buhari will bolster the campaign with his star power, is home state of the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

President Muhammadu Buhari is set to squelch opposition rumours that he is deliberately keeping away from the rallies of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Senator Kashim Shettima.

Buhari who in October said he will be at the forefront of the campaign will make his second appearance at rallies on Monday in Adamawa.

His first appearance was at the flag-off in Jos in November 2022.

Adamawa, where Buhari will bolster the campaign with his star power, is home state of the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

Buhari narrowly lost the state to Atiku in 2019 election. Buhari had won the state handily in four previous elections in 2003, 2007, 2011 and 2015.

But in February, the APC presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and governorship candidate Senator Aishatu Binani are planning to upset PDP and Atiku Abubakar.

The candidates hope to cash in on the popularity of Aisha Buhari, who comes from the state.

According to a readjusted campaign programme, President Buhari will also show up in Sokoto on Monday 15 January and on Saturday 21 January, in Calabar, Cross River.

He is also expected in Ogun on 25 January, a day after commissioning Dangote Refinery, Lagos Blue Line and other projects in Lagos.

The two other rallies that the President will attend are those planned for Kwara on 28 January and Yobe on 30 January.

Last year, Buhari banned serving officials to stay away from campaigns, as he wanted them to concentrate on their jobs.
