Gov. Bello signs N243bn 2023 budget into law

Niger State Governor Abubakar Sani-Bello has signed the 2023 appropriation bill of over N243 billion into law.

The budget was N5 billion above the N238 billion budget proposal presented to the state House of Assembly for consideration.

Capital expenditure exceeded N152 billion, while recurrent expenditure exceeded N91 billion.

Under the sectorial breakdown, the administration had over N9 billion, Economics had over N102 billion, Law, and Justice had more than N1 billion and the social sector had over N38 billion.

Bello expressed optimism that the budget would be to the people’s benefit irrespective of the scarcity of resources.

He said that as the last budget under him, the incoming administration might make some changes or maintain the approved budget.

However, the governor expressed hope that the 2023 budget, if fully implemented, would result in a better Niger State.

He commended the legislature for their continued support of the executive arm, pro-activeness, and working tirelessly to ensure the passage of the 2023 bill.

Bello appreciated the leadership and members of the state Budget and Planning Commission as well as Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) for their contributions in ensuring the budget was passed.

Speaker of the State House of Assembly Abdullahi Bawa, represented by member Representing Chanchaga State Constituency, Alhaji Ahmed Marafa, presented the budget to the governor for assent.
