The Nigerian and African entertainment sector was thrown into mourning early Tuesday morning with the news that Ms Peace Anyiam- Osigwe, the founder of African Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) is dead.

Though there has not been official announcement from her family, information shared on social media by some of the players in the Nigerian movie industry indicated that Anyiam- Osigwe died late Monday.

She has reportedly been in coma in a hospital in Lagos since last Saturday.

Movie producer, Zik Zulu was one of the practitioners in the industry who announced her death on a Nollywood platform.

He said her family has confirmed her transition.

“Our President, Peace, has passed. As of Saturday, she was reported to be in a coma at Saint Nicholas. But now her family has confirmed her transition. May the memory of her life be a blessing. Rest in peace, dear Peace.”

Another player in the industry who confirmed the death of the AMAA founder was movie producer, Obi Emelonye.

In a post on his social media page, Obi said, “Thank you and good night, Dada Peace,”

In the same vein, Mike Nliam, another practitioner in the industry said, “The founder of the African Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) and president of the Association of Movie Producers of Nigeria, Peace Anyiam Osigwe, is gone to be with d Lord!

Anyim-Osigwe founded the Africa Film Academy, organising the African Academy Award annually since 2005. The award recognizes excellence in movie production across the African continent.

She announced the plan for the 2023 AMAA award in Lagos last year.

Born into the famous Anyiam-Osigwe family in Nkwerre, Imo State, the late AMAA award organiser has a degree in Law and political science from Oxford Brookes University.
